Armed robbery at Sunderland shop

Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a Sunderland shop.

It happened at 8.56pm on Saturday, November 11, at Premier Stores, Villette Road in Hendon. A masked man armed with a knife entered the store and threatened staff and stole alcohol and a mobile phone before leaving.

No one was injured but staff were shaken by the incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact police. In particular there are believed to have been several men outside the shop at the time of the robbery and police would like to contact them as they may have information which could assist officers.

Following enquiries two people have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery, a 25-year-old man and 44-year-old woman, both have been released under investigation. Enquiries are continuing.
