MyStreet- Newcastle Launch

The MyStreet app launch has arrived at the halfway point. Today it was launched in Newcastle with Northumberland and North Tyneside already live and Gateshead Sunderland and South Tyneside to follow.

On September 25th Northumbria Police began rolling out a new app in collaboration with partner organisations.

The ‘MyStreet’ app has been developed by Blyth Neighbourhood Policing Team in partnership with local volunteer Street Wardens, ICCQ (Improving Croft and Cowpen Quay), Nutshell Apps, Local County Councillor Kath Nisbet and SC Volunteer Neil Patton who has a background in design and developed the ideas into a brand. This working group will continue as the app develops, constantly thinking of ways to improve the service and best utilise its functions.

The app was originally developed using funding from Police and Crime Commissioner Dame Vera Baird’s Supporting Victims Fund, which was given to Safer Northumberland.

The app is designed for the community to use with benefits for professionals within the communities as well as police.

Chief Inspector Barrie Joisce, Northumbria Police Force Improvement said: “The ‘MyStreet’ app is going to be incredibly beneficial to the way we operate as a police force. Not only will it provide a better service for members of the public, it will also significantly reduce the demand on our officers and staff. This app will educate the public in respect of who to contact for different types of complaints and will save both the public and partner agencies time. Whilst engaging with the public, staff should make a real effort to promote the app and its benefits.”

Below are the launch dates for area of our region:

  • Northumberland was launched 25th September
  • North Tyneside was launched 16th October
  • Newcastle Launches 6th November
  • Gateshead and South Tyneside Launches 8th December
  • Sunderland Launches 15th January 2018 

There are different apps depending on your area and the three main tiers to the app are:

  • Support signposting – To help the public and victims with direct links and information to local Councils, crisis centres, help and advice services and much more.
  • National – Reports can be made to Crimestoppers, HM Revenue and Customs, Citizens advice, National Crime Agency, RSPCA, Environments agency Department of Transport to name but a few.
  • Local Services - Reports for fly tipping, street lighting, noise complaints, potholes, shrubs and trees to be cut back etc. In this area what the app does differently is tap into existing reporting methods connecting to the correct reporting form which gets reviewed by the head of the relevant department.
