Police are reminding members of the public the roads around Gosforth Park and Newcastle Racecourse will be busier than normal for Northumberland Plate Festival.

Roads will be particularly busy as visitors arrive and leave the racecourse and Traffic management will be in the area to ensure traffic disruption is kept to a minimum.

Visitors to the event are advised to plan their journey in advance and allow plenty of time for their journey.

We are also reminding people to think about their personal safety when out enjoying themselves and not to let the day be ruined by too much alcohol. People going out after the event are reminded to make sure they have plans to get home. Pre-book a taxi or arrange for a lift.

Officers will be on patrol throughout the day speaking to people going along and offering reassurance.

Armed officers will also be on patrol at the event as they have done at other major events hosted in the Northumbria Police area this year to provide reassurance to visitors to festival.
