Appeal after robbery in Gateshead

Police in Gateshead are appealing for information after a woman was robbed in the street.

The 33-year-old woman was walking on the Old Durham road near to the ambulance station in Gateshead when she was confronted by a male on a bicycle just before midnight on Monday evening.

He grabbed her bag and then fled the scene. The woman was not injured during the incident.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and extra officers have been patrolling the area but now police have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to get in touch.

Officers particularly want to speak to an elderly male who was in the area at the time of the incident and could provide police with useful information.

The offender is described as a white male wearing all white clothing.
