Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 20 March 2013 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

  1. I wish to access the data for the speed check on: Wednesday 6 March 2013 on the Shields Road by-pass, Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6, including, and not limited to, how many cars surveyed, and the quantity that were over the speed limit, broken down in 10mph ranges. (Over 40, Over 50, Over 60) etc

  2. Was this a fixed or mobile speed camera unit, where was it positioned within the by-pass, which direction was it pointed. Did it
    survey both lanes, or one lane?

  3. The scheduled hours of operation of the unit.

  4. The make/model of the speed detection device used, and the last calibration date.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Operation Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

  1. 40 to 49mph - 93 vehicles
    50 to 59mph - 50 vehicles
    60 to 69mph -   3 vehicles
    over 70mph  -   1 vehicle

    Please note the speed limit on this section of road is 40mph

  2. This was a mobile deployment parked in the layby at the east end of the bypass covering vehicles in both directions. 

  3. The vehicle was deployed between 0858hrs and 1144hrs.

  4. The speed detection device is a Concept II Lastec LTI 20.20 Ultralyte 1000, which was last calibrated in September 2012.

How to complain
