Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 24rd May 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

"Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act 2000, we would be grateful if you would provide us with the following information:

1. Please confirm how many road traffic investigations were conducted by your Police Force in 2010/2011 for the following matters:

 1.1  Fatal road traffic investigations encompassing both Causing Death by Dangerous Driving (contrary to Section 1 of the Road Traffic Act 1988) and Causing Death by Careless or Inconsiderate Driving (contrary to Section 2B of the Road Traffic Act 1988); and

 1.2  Careless and Inconsiderate Driving contrary to Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. 

2. As above, please could you confirm the same for the year 2009/2010.

3. Of those investigations, please confirm how many of these resulted in a prosecution.  In this regard, we would be grateful if you would provide us with a breakdown of the statistics for the offences referred to at paragraph 1 above. "

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
