Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 3 June 2013 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

  1. The number of times police have been called to primary schools in the Sunderland Area Command area since January 2012.   

  2. The reasons police were called to the schools mentioned in Question 1.   

  3. The number of times police have been called to secondary schools in the Sunderland Area Command area since January 2012.  

  4. The reasons police were called to the schools mentioned in Question 3.  

  5. The number of weapons that have been seized/handed into police from all schools across the Sunderland Area Command area since January 2012.  

  6. A full breakdown of the types of weapons seized from all schools in the Sunderland Area Command area since January 2013. (eg 2xknife)

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Sunderland Area Command of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

  1. 537 calls to primary schools 

  2. Police were called for reasons including : assault, damage, child concerns, domestic violence, missing person, thefts, insecure premises,weapons, drivers/parking problems and theft 

  3. 590 calls to secondary schools 

  4. Police were called for reasons including : assault, damage, child concerns, domestic violence, missing person, thefts, insecure premises, weapons, fires, drivers/parking problems, drugs, burglary, disorder, criminal damage and theft 

  5. 3 weapons seized/handed in. 

  6. 2 x kitchen knife and 1 x bb gun
