Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)
Thank you for your email dated 1 January 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
How many Special Constables are there in your Constabulary?
How many Special Constables were suspended from the force in: a) 2011; b) 2010; c) 2009
Breaking it down into each year, could you list the reasons why each person was suspended. How many Special Constables were sacked or had their contract terminated in: a) 2011; b) 2010; c) 2009?

How many complaints has the Constabulary received about a Special Constable in: a) 2011; b) 2010; c) 2009?

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with both the HR and Professional Standards Departments of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I have decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.
1. At 1 January 2012 there were 286 Special Constables.
The following information was extracted from a live database and spreadsheets maintianed by the Professional Stanrds Deparrment, and may be subject to the addition and deletion of complaints, complainants and subjects after the initial extraction of data used for the purposes of this report. The information in this report relates to Special Constables only. For questions 4 and 5, data has been extracted based upon allegations attached to cases finalised between 01/01/2009 and 31/12/2011. For questions 6 and 7, data has been extracted based upon allegations attached to cases recorded between 01/01/2009 and 31/12/2011.
