Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 9 October 2014 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

I am asking for the information using the Freedom of Information Act (2000) regarding the number of arrests due to football violence in the matches between Newcastle United v Sunderland AFC since August 2003 to August 2014.

Please tell me:

a) How many football related arrests Northumbria Police made during match days in Sunderland between Newcastle United and Sunderland AFC from August 2003 to August 2014 in a year by year breakdown.  Also which club the fans were supporting.

b) How many football related arrests Northumbria Police made during match days in Newcastle between Newcastle United and Sunderland AFC from August 2003 to August 2014 in a year by year breakdown. Also which club the fans were supporting. 

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Crime Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

a. Sunderland:

2005 - 2006 - 27 home arrests and 7 away arrests 
2006 - 2007 - Did not play 
2007 - 2008 - 8 home arrests and 2 away arrests 
2008 - 2009 - 29 home arrests and 15 away arrests 
2009 - 2010 - Did not play 
2010 - 2011 - 35 home arrests and 11 away arrests 
2011 - 2012 - 13 home arrests and 7 away arrests 
2012 - 2013 - 8 home arrests and 3 away arrests 
2013 - 2014 - 11 home arrests and 2 away arrests

b. Newcastle

Season

2003 - 2004 - Did not play 
2005 - 2006 - 3 home arrests and 1 away arrests 
2006 - 2007 - Did not play 
2007 - 2008 - 8 home arrests and 2 away arrests 
2008 - 2009 - 27 home arrests and 8 away arrests 
2009 - 2010 - Did not play 
2010 - 2011 - 39 home arrests and 9 away arrests 
2011 - 2012 - 9 home arrests and 10 away arrests 
2012 - 2013 - 133 home arrests and 7 away arrests 
2013 - 2014 - 6 home arrests and 2 away arrests
