Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 17 January 2014 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

1) How many Response Police Officers Full Time Equivalent (FTE) did  you forecast that you would need to police your area each year for each of the last 7 calender years.

2) How many Response Police Officers Full Time Equivalent (FTE) were employed in your constabulary in each of the last 7 calendar years.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the HR Department  of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The below table details the total full time equivalent number of response officers (PC and Sergeant) forecast and employed by Northumbria Police across the period. Two observations are made in respect of these figures:-

· The introduction of the current neighbourhood policing model in 2009 under the national initiatives of Citizen Focus and Protective Services followed by a the introduction of a revised Basic Command Unit model in 2011 resulted in a realignment of front line resource, which accounts for the fluctuations between 2008 and 2011.

· The number of response officers forecast across the period has been exceeded (on average) by the number of response officers employed in this category, in line with the Force’s commitment to front line policing.

With the above in mind please see the table below which answers your request

Financial Year Forecast Actual
2006-07  2025.50  2090.19
2007-08  2026.50  2054.90
2008-09  1975.50  1984.73
2009-10  2095.00  2066.68
2010-11  2141.00  2091.08
2011-12  2145.00  2167.62
2012-13  2144.00  2130.04

Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another.  Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.  For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.

The information we have supplied to you is likely to contain intellectual property rights of Northumbria Police.  Your use of the information must be strictly in accordance with the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (as amended) or such other applicable legislation.  In particular, you must not re-use this information for any commercial purpose.
