Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 1 May 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

I wish to know how many officers in your force at the moment have registered second jobs?

If the information is held I would also like to know what these jobs are.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with both the HR Department of Northumbria Police.

The definition 'second job' has historically not been used by Northumbria Police as such 'interests' could include the letting of property, charity work etc.  However, this is now under review and at a future date will be segregated as second occupations.

With the above in mind the information provided is for 'approved business interests' ie secondary earnings .

As of 27 April 2012 267 officers have approved business interests.  This information can change on a daily basis as new entries may be added and others removed.

Statistics for 2009 and 2010 are pro-actively published and freely available on the Northumbria Police website via the Publication Scheme. Examples of specific business interests can be found there.  Statistics for 2011 will be published at a future date.

You may be interested to know that Northumbria Police routinely publish information that has been disclosed by Northumbria Police in response to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 via the Disclosure Log.  The aim of the Disclosure Log is to promote openness and transparency by voluntarily placing information into the public arena.
