Date of request: 05//

Date of response: 13/01/2012

Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated 5 January 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked:

Please could you supply me with information relating to homophobic abuse at sports grounds in 2011.

The following questions relate to:
Newcastle Falcons home fixtures at Kingston Park Stadium
Newcastle United home fixtures at St James Park stadium
Sunderland AFC home fixtures at the Stadium of Light

  1. How many incidents of spectators using homophobic abuse in the stadium were reported to police in 2011?

  2. What was the number of spectators ejected from the stadium in 2011 as a result of using homophobic abuse?

  3. How many spectators were arrested in 2011 for using homophobic abuse in the stadium?

  4. How many of those arrested for using homophobic abuse in the stadium were then charged and/or given football banning orders

To clarify, I would like answers to questions one, two and three for all three sports clubs. So there should be nine separate answers provided.
