Human trafficking - 278/16
Dated: 05 Jul 2016
Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
Thank you for your e mail dated 28 February 2016 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
1. Budgets/funding or any other resources directly allocated by the Force towards anti-trafficking activities and/or activities to combat ‘modern slavery' in 2014/15 and 2015/16 financial years (i.e. dedicated projects, anti-trafficking operations, members of staff, information campaigns etc.) and what these activities are.
2. If available, a copy of the organisational strategy or any other document which sets out what actions are to be taken by the Force to combat trafficking in human beings and/or ‘modern slavery’ as mandated by the UK Government Human trafficking Strategy (2011), Modern Slavery Act (2015) and Modern slavery strategy (2014)
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Finance and Crime Departments of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
1. Finance does not hold information on Budgets/funding directly allocated by the Force towards anti-trafficking activities and/or activities to combat ‘modern slavery' as there is no separate budget for Human Trafficking and modern slavery.
2. Please note the information provided at this point comprises documents which are a work in progress. They should not be taken as complete documents.
All names in these documents have been removed.
With the above in mind please see the attached which answers your query.
Additionally we have provided the relevant link to the Violence against women and girls (VAWG) section of our website.
Due to the different methods of recording information across 43 forces, a specific response from one constabulary should not be seen as an indication of what information could be supplied (within cost) by another. Systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data. For this reason responses between forces may differ, and should not be used for comparative purposes.
