Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)

Thank you for your email dated  6th June 2012 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.

You asked: 

I would like to know ;
      A)      the total number of incidents created
      B)      the total number of crimes committed
      C)      the total number of arrests made
in the following Area Commands – i) Newcastle, ii) Gateshead, iii) North
Tyneside and iv) South Tyneside,
during the dates/times shown below.
Sunday 28/8/11           11.00am – 4.30pm
Saturday 24/9/11         1.00pm – 6.30pm
Saturday 17/12/11       1.00pm – 6.30pm
Wednesday 4/1/12      6.00pm – 11.30pm
Sunday 5/2/12          11.30am – 5.00pm
Sunday 18/3/12        2.00pm – 7.30pm
Monday 9/4/12        1.00pm – 6.30pm
Saturday 21/4/12     1.00pm – 6.30pm

Could the information be broken down into all 4 area commands please for each date/time requested, as follows;
Newcastle - ?? incidents,  ?? crimes,  ?? arrests.
North Tyneside -  ?? incidents,  ?? crimes,  ?? arrests.
South Tyneside - ?? incidents,  ?? crimes,  ?? arrests.
Gateshead - ?? incidents, ?? crimes,  ?? arrests.

In response:

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Corporate Development Department of Northumbria Police.  I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The totals for incidents include all incidents created in that time frame. This includes ‘administrative’ incidents. Administrative incidents are those incidents that fall outside the NICL (National Incident Category List) themes of Transport, ASB and Public Safety & Welfare. Some examples include incident logs created internally by the organisation for policing purposes and "duplicate" incidents (where multiple callers report the same incident).

The totals for crimes are based on a search of the ‘date committed from’ and ‘time committed from’ fields.

Totals for arrests are based on the location of the incident for the arrest. This might not be the same as the area where the offence was committed.

With the above in mind please see the attached which answers your request.
