Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')



Thank you for your e mail dated 25 January 2016 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.


As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.


You asked:

1. The number of police officers who were formally disciplined for a) drugs offences and b) sexual misconduct or sex offences in each of the last two complete calendar years (i.e. 2014 and 2015).

2. In each case I would like to know the rank, gender and of the officer disciplined, the year of the disciplinary proceedings, the outcome of the proceedings and a brief description of their misconduct.



We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.


Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Professional Standards Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held in part by Northumbria Police.


The following information has been extracted from a ‘live’ database and may be subject to the addition and deletion of complaints, complainants and subjects after the initial extraction of data used for the purposes of this request.

Complaints and conduct cases were checked for allegations finalised with subject between 01/01/14 and 31/12/15.  A keyword search was conducted in the allegation summary field for the following – ‘drugs’, ‘drug’, ‘sex’, ‘sexual’, ‘touch’ and ‘inappropriate’.  Each allegation summary from the results of the search was checked to see if any police officers were found to have a case to answer and formally disciplined. 

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.
