Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')

Thank you for your e mail dated 8 November 2016 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police. 

As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held at the time of a request, by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions. 

You asked: 

Please could you tell me how much has been paid out between 1 April 2013 to 31st March 2016 on compensation payouts to police officers or civilian workers because of injury at work. Could you also include in this amount figures for any mental health payments or post traumatic stress disorder payments in this amount. 

Over this time period could you also just list the highest as well as the lowest payout listing the injury, how this injury was caused and whether the worker or officer was male or female. 

We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention. 

Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Legal Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police. 

I am able to disclose the located information to you as follows.

The information has been disclosed in a way which avoids the use of exemptions to withhold.

The total compensation paid in relation to Employer's Liability civil claims brought by police officers and members of police staff between 1/4/13 - 31/3/16 was £76,767.00.

The highest compensation payment made during this period was £13,792.00. 

The lowest compensation payment made during this period was £1,250.00. 

One claim was brought by a male police officer.

One claim  was brought by a male member police staff.

One claim was in relation to a laceration to finger personal injury claim

One claim was in relation to a shoulder, neck and knee personal injury claim.
