The local councils are legally responsible for dealing with stray dogs under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. They must provide suitable kennelling for any dog seized by its officers or brought in by anyone else. Dogs must be kept for a minimum of 7 days if not claimed by their owner.
If you are reporting a dangerous dog incident, contact police on 101 or 999.
ABUSED/INJURED animals and birds
Your local veterinary surgery may be able to offer free advice.
RSPCA offer a 24 hour Cruelty line service. They can be contacted on 0300 1234 999 to report incidents/concerns about cruelty to or animals in distress.
Sick, injured or trapped animals can be reported to the above number.

You can contact RSPCA in two ways:

Call the RSPCA 24-hour cruelty line on 0300 1234 999 to report cruelty or an animal in distress. The call will cost the same as any call to a UK landline number.
You will be asked a variety of questions to ensure that your call is prioritised according to its urgency. Please note, during busier periods your call may be placed in queue.
