Safer Schools Partnerships (SSP) have been established in the UK since 2002 and take a joined-up approach to crime prevention, school safety, behaviour improvement and educational achievement.
The purpose of the Department for Children, Schools and Families is to make this the best place in the world for children and young people to grow up.
They want to:
make children and young people happy and healthy
keep them safe and sound
give them a top class education
help them stay on track
Northumbria Police recognises the importance of working in partnership with schools and other agencies with a view to building trust and confidence in the community and reducing crime and disorder.
An assessment of needs will be carried out in partnership with each school to identify the agreed local policing activity and support relevant to that school and its community.
Implementation of Safer Schools within Northumbria Police Area will mean that every school will have an identified Neighbourhood Beat Manager (NBM)/Community Support Officer (CSO) who will act as a single point of contact should they need to seek advice or assistance. This will be standard practice across the force area.
