Roads Policing & Casualty Reduction

We want everyone who uses our regions roads to feel safe – from toddlers to teens, horse riders to cyclists and HGV drivers to daily commuters. We are committed to ensuring that the roads are a space for us all to share safely.

We work with key partners to ensure we deliver the best service possible to the road network. We are delighted to be working alongside North East Ambulance Service, the two fire services in our force area – Tyne & Wear Fire and Rescue and Northumberland Fire and Rescue who share our common goal.

Key partners such as the Transport and Data Unit at Gateshead Council, the Highways Agency, VOSA and the Urban Traffic Management Centre (UTMC) work alongside us to ensure we have the most up to date and accurate information to inform our patrol plans and priorities for road safety.

In addition to Operation Dragoon, Operation Laconia is our long standing commitment to high visibility patrol on the strategic road network at peak traffic times. This ensures we can respond to incidents swiftly and ensure the smooth flow of traffic so you can enjoy your journey.

Think! Road safety logoTHINK! is a government road safety campaign. Its aim is to encourage safer behaviour to reduce the number of people killed and injured on our roads every year.
