Counter Terrorism Security Advisors

There are four Counter Terrorism Security Advisors (CTSAs) based in Northumbria Police. Their work is co-ordinated and directed by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO ).

The role of CTSAs

The key national priorities of the CTSA are;

  • To provide protective security advice on the protection of  ‘Crowded Places’

  • To provide protective security advice on the protection of hazardous sites and the security of hazardous substances.

  • To support the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI) in helping to protect premises within their remit.

Work with partner organisations

CTSAs work with partner agencies such as local authorities and the other emergency services to encourage a co-ordinated approach and build useful networks. They work closely with representatives of trade organisations and professional bodies to ensure counter terrorism protective security advice is incorporated into crime prevention regimes.

CTSA Training

CTSAs receive comprehensive specialist training in areas such as explosives and pre-cursor chemicals, pathogens and toxins, radiological sources, site and vulnerable point surveying, business continuity, information and personnel security, integrated security systems, designing out vehicle borne terrorism and the threat from CBRN attack.

CTSA Advice

CTSAs offer Counter Terrorism (CT) protective security advice to the various Crowded Places sectors supported by advice books. They also offer CT briefings in the form of Project Argus, Project Griffin and Project Revise events as well as custom briefings for businesses. Businesses can also access an on-line Vulnerability Self Assessment Tool (VSAT) which can assist with protecting their business. Further information on the above is available on the NaCTSO web-site.
