Darren Best (7005)
Darren Best moved to Northumbria Police on 4th January 2016 as the Assistant Chief Constable holding the Protective Services portfolio.
Darren's career, up to this move, was within Cleveland, where he began his career as a probationer in Southbank in 1989.
After 7 years he was promoted to Sergeant in Hartlepool which is where he would probably have stayed, as a Sergeant, was it not for an accident in the Lake District resulting in a broken leg. Recuperative duties whilst he recovered moved him into Corporate Development, followed by Child Protection unit, then promotion.
Through the ranks Darren has had a varied operational background, achieving PIP Level 4 Senior Investigating Officer and leading on complex investigations. He has worked within a number of crime areas including, Public Protection, Child protection ,Professional Standards. He was the Area Commander at Stockton from 2010 to 2012, before being promoted to the role of Head of Crime and Criminal Justice in Cleveland.
He is currently an accredited Strategic Firearms Commander and Public Order Gold.
