Dogs Who Have Found A Home
Sorry - Ralph has found a new home
We are looking for a new home for two year old Cocker Spaniel Ralph as he has sadly not made it through his training course. Ralph was gifted to Northumbria Police by a member of the public when he was around a year old as he was too boisterous for the family home.
Ralph is a lovely friendly dog with people and other dogs, he has bags of energy and would need a home with people who could give him lots of exercise. Ralph has shown an interest in chasing cars which put an end to his police dog career although when walked with his tennis ball he has shown no interest and just wants to play fetch. He has also suffered a skin condition due to Demodex mites which has been successfully treated with a topical spot on skin treatment although we could not guarantee that he would never have another flare up in the future.
Ralph has been in kennel care for some time now while his skin condition was being addressed, he is desperate to get a new home where he will be the centre of attention. Ideally we would like a quiet home for Ralph in a rural or semi rural location preferably where he would be the only dog and with people who understand the exercise and training requirements of owning an energetic spaniel.
Ralph would be free of charge to a suitable home and is up to date with his vaccinations, flea and worming treatments.
Sorry - Nell has now found a new home
Nell is a short coated sable German Shepherd who is in need of a new home. Nell is now seven months old and was part of our puppy training programme but she can be quite a shy dog and can get spooked in certain situations, particularly in the dark, she therefore does not possess the bravery required to be a police dog.
Nell is friendly with people and loves to play with other dogs, she can be submissive if she finds the other dog a little scary. Due to this Nell would need to be rehomed with people who have prior experience and an understanding of the German Shepherd breed who could help build her confidence. Nell is a fun and affectionate dog who will require allot of exercise as she gets older and would benefit from further training and socialisation.
Nell is up to date with her vaccinations, worming and flea treatment, she would be £200 to a suitable home.
Sorry - Blaze has now found a new home
Blaze was a Dutch Herder 16 month old female dog ( Barnies sister ). Blaze is very friendly towards other dogs but is a little nervous of strangers until she gets to know them. Her nervous temperament makes her unsuitable to be a police dog. We are looking for a home with experience of owning energetic breeds with no young children. Blaze is £500.00.
Sorry - Hunter has now found a new home
Hunter was a 2 year old Sprocker (a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Springer Spaniel) who was donated to Northumbria Police in June 2013. He found a new home after being unsuccessful in his police dog training. Hunter is a loving dog with basic obedience and boundless energy. He loves nothing more than a long walk and a game of fetch. Hunter can be boisterous with other dogs while playing and prefers the company of female dogs, although friendly he has not lived with children and therefore we would not rehome him to a family with young children.
SORRY - SCOOT HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Scoot was a former police dog and got rehomed by Northumbria Police when he was 1 year old. Scoot settled in really well and is loving life enjoying his retirement with his new family.
SORRY - ROBBIE HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
We are currently looking to find a home for a male five month old Belgian Shepherd (Malinois) called Robbie. Robbie did not posses the bravery to become a police dog but due to his strong working lines we would like to find a home where he could be kept mentally and physically active.
Robbie is friendly and affectionate with people but can on occasion be a little shy. Although Robbie has got on well with some dogs he has also shown signs of aggression and due to this we would like to rehome him as an only dog where his sociability can be improved over time.
Robbie would need experienced owners who understand that he will need a great deal of commitment including training. Robbie would be £250 to the right home, he is microchipped and up to date with his vaccinations, worming and flea treatment. If you are interested in rehoming Robbie please indicate this in the additional comments section on your rehoming application along with your relevant experience.
SORRY - MOCKSY HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Mocksy, one of our force bred puppies is currently looking for a home. He is a 15 month old German Shepherd and although a very lively and friendly dog he did not have the desire to become a police dog. Mocksy gets on well with other dogs but can be boisterous. SORRY - RUBY HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Ruby is a black and tan, short coated seven year old female German Shepherd who has just retired from police service and is now looking for a home. Ruby is very sociable with people and is a biddable and fun dog to have around. Ruby gets on well with other dogs when carefully introduced but she can be aggressive to new dogs so care would need to taken when walking her. Due to Ruby's police dog training we would like to rehome her to people with relevant dog experience. Ruby is a lovely dog and despite her age is fit and healthy, she is neutered and is up to date with her vaccinations, wormer and flea treatment. Ruby would be free of charge to the right home.
SORRY - JAY HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Jay, one of our force bred dogs is looking for a very special home. He is 2 1/2 years old and has been medically retired due to developing Epilepsy. Jay is currently on daily medication.
Despite this Jay remains a happy, lively dog and is friendly and sociable with people and other dogs. Jay has been known to chase cats but with careful introduction it is possible that he could live with a cat. We would like a home with people who have large breed experience and who can commit to the possibility of a long-term medical condition. We think Jay would prefer to live with another dog but this is not essential as finding the right home is our main priority.
At the present time Jay has not had any seizures since being on his medication which is at a cost of around £25 per month, he will also require periodic blood tests to monitor his condition. Due to this Jay would be free of charge to the right home, is up to date with his vaccinations, wormer, flea control and could be neutered free of charge.
SORRY - EMMA HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Emma is a year old female Springer Spaniel. After showing great potential as a puppy Emma has since failed her police dog training course as she would not concentrate on searching. She is friendly with people and social with other dogs but as a typical spaniel her main love is the great outdoors. We are looking for an active home where Emma will receive plenty of exercise and with people who have an understanding of her breed.
Emma is up to date with her vaccinations, worming and is microchiped. She would be £400 to the right home.
SORRY - VIC HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Vic is a very cute 4 month old male German Shepherd, Dutch herder cross. At such a young age Vic was just at the start of his police dog training but due to a rather unusual problem he has been given an early retirement and is now looking for a new home.
Vic becomes very stressed and motion sick when travelling in a car or police van and despite his handler trying numerous methods to help him none have eased his symptoms. Our vets hope that Vic will grow out of this behaviour and would benefit from a more gradual and accommodating approach which we are unable to give him as police dogs are required to travel in a dog van every time they are at work.
Vic has a great character and is friendly with people and other dogs, ideally we would like a home with people who have large breed experience and plenty of time to continue Vic's socialisation and training. As he has not lived with young children we would prefer an adult only home or a home with older children. Due to his working breed lines we believe Vic would benefit from a home where his physical and mental needs would be met.
As Vic gets so travel sick we would like to rehome him as locally as possible and to a home where car travel is not an essential to begin with. Vic is up to date with his vaccinations and is wormed and microchipped. Vic would be £400 to the right home.
SORRY - STAN HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Stan is a black and tan 5 year old male German Shepherd who has just been medically retired. Stan has been with Northumbria Police since a puppy and has enjoyed his career as a police dog.
He is social with people and other dogs and has an extremely biddable character making him a fun and loyal companion.
Stan has recently been diagnosed with a degenerative condition effecting his back legs cutting short his time as a police dog due to the physical demands of the role. Although his condition will deteriorate over time he does not need medication and can still enjoy walks and live a normal pet dog life.
Stan is a loving and friendly dog but due to his training as a police dog we would like to rehome him with people who have understanding and experience of his breed and working temperament.
SORRY - JIM HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Jim is a nine year old male cocker spaniel looking for a home where he can retire after a busy career as a search dog. Jim is extremely affectionate and friendly with people and is sociable with most dogs. He loves to play retrieve with his toys and has a good recall. Although Jim is nine he still has lots of energy and enjoys going for walks.
Jim has an under active thyroid, a medical condition which means he has to take a tablet each day and a twice yearly blood test but this does not affect his quality of life. We are looking for a home with people who have an understanding of his breed and can give him the time and attention he deserves.
Jim is up to date with his vaccinations is wormed, microchipped and would be free of charge to the right home.

SORRY - DENZO HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
We are looking for a quiet retirement home for seven year old male German Shepherd Dog Denzo. After spending his whole life as a working dog he has been medically retired from service due to arthritis in one of his hips meaning he is on long term anti-inflammatory medication.
Denzo is a loving and affectionate dog who gets on well with people and is very well behaved. He is friendly with most other dogs, loves to be groomed and fussed and still enjoys his walks. Due to his arthritis we would like a peaceful home for Denzo without young children but he could live with another calm dog. As Denzo has been trained as a police dog any potential new owners would need an understanding and experience of German Shepherds or similar breeds.
Denzo is a black and tan medium sized German Shepherd with a short coat, photos to follow.
SORRY - RIP HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Rip is a six year old female German Shepherd Dog who is looking for a suitable home to spend her retirement years. Rip has been a fantastic police dog for Northumbria Police but due to arthritis in one of her back hocks she has been medically retired.
Rip is a very loving dog who bonds quickly and enjoys attention. Due to her training and length of service we are looking for a particular type of home where her needs and temperament are fully understood. We are therefore looking for an adult only home where Rip is the only dog, although she has lived happily with other dogs when properly introduced she is generally unsocial with other dogs. Ideally we are looking for a rural home where she has space to exercise and can switch off from her police dog training.
Rip's arthritis has ruled out continuing her career as a police dog as the role can be very physically demanding but she can still lead an active and happy life in the right environment. She is currently on medication only when needed but the frequency could increase as she ages. Rip is from a working German Shepherd Dog background so would need to be kept mentally as well as physically occupied, ideally keeping up with her obedience training.
Rip would be free of charge to the right owners. She is neutered, microchipped and up to date with her vaccinations, worming and flea prevention.

Leon is friendly towards people and is fine around other dogs once he gets to know them. We are looking for a home with no children under 10 years of age and someone who has experience with owning large breed dogs.
SORRY - LOTTIE HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED

SORRY - FIN HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Fin is a 8 year old Cocker Spainel black dog who has been with us since he was a puppy but has now reached his retirement and is looking for a loving new home.
Fin is a very affectionate loving dog who would make a great family pet. Looking for an adult only home or a family with older children. Fin can be sociable with female dogs but not so good with male dogs.
Fin has a mild medical condition which does require daily medication but this does not effect his quality of life.
SORRY - LIZZIE HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Lizzie is a 6 month old female German Shepard who is looking for a new home. She was bred by us but unfortunatley due to medical conditions can not be used as a police dog.
Lizzie has suspected hip dysplasia and possible neurological problems that cause her to walk with a strange gait. At the moment this causes her no pain; she runs about and plays like a normal happy puppy.
The long term impact that this may have on her life is not known.
Lizzie is very lively and she loves people, other dogs and playing with toys. We are looking for someone who has cared for large breed dogs before and has no children under the age of 10.
SORRY - CAIRO HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Cairo is a black and tan male German Shepherd who is one year old.
He came to Northumbria Police through a rescue centre and although he showed potential initially he is not quite brave enough to be a police dog. Cairo still acts like a puppy and is very affectionate but he is a big dog and can be fairly boisterous and strong on his lead.
Cairo needs a home with people who understand the German Shepherd breed, without young children and who will continue his socialisation and training, we think he would make a fantastic pet.
SORRY - MAX HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Max is 15 month old male German Shepherd who was gifted to the Dog Section from a member of the public.
Like his friend Cairo, Max would also rather be a pet dog than a police dog. Max is full of fun and adores attention but he can be excitable. He loves other dogs although he can be a little over enthusiastic for some whilst playing. Again we would prefer an adult only home with people who have large breed experience who can give Max the home he deserves.
SORRY - DECO HAS NOW BEEN REHOMED
Deco is a long coated 17 month old male German Shepherd is also looking for a home.
