The photographic laboratory or Colour Processing Unit (CPU) is responsible for processing around 350,000 prints per year.
These images can be anything from scenes of crime to road traffic collisions or arial photographs required for court.
The unit is staffed by two specialists who are required to produce images of the highest quality.
The photographs, often of an extremely sensitive nature, are subject to stringent conditions.
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) have produced guidelines concerning police use of digital images.
